Interest meeting scheduled for tent revival

An interest meeting for the Rekindle Virginia Tent Revival is scheduled for 7 p.m. April 22, at Trinity Christian Church of Suffolk, 128 Franklin St.

This revival is being organized by Dot Dalton, the founder and former president of IMPACT Suffolk for more than 20 years.

“God brought many mighty revivals through the Second Great Awakening in America, which was in Virginia between 1740 and 1790,” said Dalton. “He did it once, and He can do it again.”

This tent revival is not just for Suffolk but also Smithfield, Isle of Wight, Northeastern North Carolina and other surrounding areas. The April 22 meeting is for church pastors, leaders and individuals from all denominations, races and backgrounds. This is for those who believe Jesus Christ is Lord and wants to come together to see the power of God work in their neighborhoods.

“I want churches from all areas to be involved and all people to be involved,” said Dalton.

The dates and location of this revival have not been confirmed yet. The various committees for this revival are still securing a site and will have set dates once that happens. Right now, Suffolk and its surrounding areas can plan for a three-day weekend revival in October 2021.

The three days will be a Friday, Saturday and Sunday and consist of reviving the church’s love for Jesus Christ and a night of healing of body, soul and spirit. There are also plans for the youth during the Saturday afternoon session to get them involved.

Dalton felt God leading her to organize this revival as verses throughout Deuteronomy came to mind. In these verses, God tells the Israelites to remember their history and what God has done for them. Realizing the history of revivals and evangelism in Virginia not only inspired the coming tent revival but a soon-to-be-released book by Dalton, “Rekindle Virginia, the Flames of Revival.”

“We can’t live in fear even now with the pandemic and everything happening in our country,” said Dalton. “We’ve got to go back like God told the Israelites and remember.”

Dalton said she wants to see the church be unified, souls saved and the next generation take up the torch to spread the gospel.
